October 2006
October Fun Stuff To Do!! All ideas submitted by Jeanine (moosassah)! Thanks, Jeanine!
October. 1 ~ World Vegetarian Day. Aspargus, peas, carrots & corn. Kids across the globe turn their noses up at many vegetables. But not scrappers! From recipe swaps to label inspired layouts we celebrate Veggies!!!
October 2 ~ World Farm Animals Day: Maybe you live somewhere with a working farm. The kids love to go see the cows, sheep & goats. If not, maybe an apple orchard will do or a pumpkin patch.
October 5 ~ World Teachers Day: We have teachers to thank for all the knowledge we've gathered. Some of us have teachers to thank for those free hours during the day when we can scrap without interruption. Shhh! Don't let the kids know you're having fun while they're in school. Share your scraps with the kids & let them make their teachers a card after they finish their homework.
October 6 ~ World Smile Day: It's proven fact that a smile is contageous. You simply cannot sit in a room with happy people & not smile. Do you have a favorite photo of someone special smiling? Enlarge that photo & make it into a wall-worthy piece of layout art!
October 7 ~ International Frugal Fun Day: Think cheap. What are some of your favorite embellishments? How can you make them even cheaper? The Dollar Store, Home Depot, the tool shed? Some of the greatest scrapping fads have come from "lifting" items. And I don't mean stealing!
October 9 ~ National Kick Butt Day: There must be something in your life that you keep meaning to get to, but this comes up & that happens & there it is...still on your list of "someday". Here it is. KICK BUTT day. DO IT! You've been kicked!
October 11 ~ Bring your Teddy Bear to School/Work Day: Load the cameras with film & the backpacks with bears for another perfectly precious layout moment.
October 15 ~ Dictionary Day: The dictionary is a scrapper's best friend. When we have journaling moments where the word simply can't be pictured in your head, the dictionary sets us straight. Go ahead! Buy a dictionary at the dollar store & alter the cover. Then it'll be so cute you won't be able to resist keeping it out on your scrap desk or taking it to crops.
October 15 ~ National Grouch Day: Oscar comes to mind immediately. Gotta love a grouch who lives in a trash can. Remember Smile Day a little over a week ago? Did you do a layout for that page? Do you have a grouchy photo to turn it into a 2 page LO?
October 19 ~ Evaluate Your Life Day: Days like this scream "Book of ME" to a scrapper. If you haven't started your Book of Me (and I can see why not, I mean how often are you actually in any pictures???) this would make a great beginning. You don't need photos to start it. Journaling does wonders. Doodling is design. Try it.
October 21 ~ Reptile Awareness Day: Snakes are creepy. Lizards, gross. But not to your kids! They love 'em. Steve Irwin probably taught your kids more about reptiles in the past couple of years than 4 years of college could. He will be missed. Libraries, zoos, local animal rescue centers--all of these are potential places for your kids to learn more about creatures that slither & slink.
October 28 ~ Make a Difference Day: It's the simple things you do that truly make a difference in peoples' lives. Are you a card maker? Send off a thinking of you card. Create a card making kit to send into school so a class can make cards to send to soldiers. Donate your unused scrap supplies to a nursing home, shelter, school. Send out a RAK to let someone know you are thinking of them. It's the little things that make big smiles.
October 31 ~ Halloween: America's second favorite holiday! Hay rides, bobbing for apples, haunted houses, candy corn, carving pumpkins, trick-or-treat, costumes...the list goes on & on! You do need to take a refresher on how to use your camera at night for those trick or treating photos. Review your manuals ahead of time to get great results. Can't find your manual? Go to your camera's website. You'll be able to download it there.
