Girls

Raindrops dance on shallow pools.
Snowflakes dance like North Wind's jewels.
Moonbeams dance through dark night skies.
If they shall dance, then so must I.
What are little girls made of? made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice and everything nice ~
That's what little girls are made of.
~Traditional nursery rhyme
"Thank heavens for little girls." And they are not just their potential as women. With pigtails and pony tails, in jeans and party dresses, climbing trees, reading books, sucking gobstoppers and turning cartwheels, making friends and breaking friends, they bring their special charm into the world, a delight in detail, a tenderness in relationship, a sensitivity to joy and sorrow and spiritual truth; the many attributes which make them different from little boys.

I'm a Girl
I'm a strong girl, strong enough to run in the waves,
I'm a brave and courageous girl,
Courageous enough to sing loud and clear,
Courageous enough to not be afraid,
Courageous enough to make a new friend.
I'm a powerful girl,
Powerful enough to make my baby brother smile when no one else can,
Powerful enough to say no to things that could hurt me,
Powerful enough to create something wonderful.
I'm a smart girl, smart enough to solve all the problems on the board,
Smart enough to make everybody laugh when I say something funny,
Smart enough to remember when it's my mom's birthday.
I'm an independent girl, independent enough to like doing new things all by myself,
Independent enough to take care of someone else,
Independent enough to cheer myself up when I'm feeling blue.
I'm a valuable girl,
Valuable enough to be loved and cherished,
Valuable enough to eat good foods that will make me strong,
Valuable enough to tell the truth about my feelings.
And because I'm strong and courageous,
Because I'm smart and powerful,
Because I'm independent and valuable.........
I'M BEAUTIFUL

Daddy's Little Girl
You're the end of my rainbow, my pot of gold.
You're Daddy's little girl, to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are.
You're Mommy's bright and shining star.
You're the spirit of Christmas, my star on the tree.
You're the Easter Bunny to Mommy and me.
You're sugar, you're spice,
You're everything nice,
And you're Daddy's little girl.
A Daughter is.....
A joy bringer,
A heart warmer,
A memory maker.
A Daughter is Love.
To My Grown-Up Daughter
My hands were busy through the day,
I didn't have much time to play,
The little games you asked me to,
I didn't have much time for you.
I'd wash your clothes, I'd sew and cook,
but when you'd bring your picture book,
And asked me please to share your fun,
I'd say "A little later hon."
I'd tuck you in all safe at night,
and hear your prayers, turn out the light,
Then tiptoe softly to the door,
I wish I'd stayed a minute more.
For life is short, the years rush past....
a little girl grows up so fast.
No longer is she at your side,
her precious secrets to confide.
The picture books are put away,
there are no longer games to play.
No good night kiss, no prayers to hear....
that all belongs to yesteryear.
My hands, once busy, now are still,
the days are long and hard to fill.
I wish I could go back and do
the little things you asked me to.
A Daughter
A daughter is a precious gift,
A blessing from above.
She's laughter, warmth, and feminine charm;
She's thoughtfulness and love.
A daughter brings a special joy
That comes from deep inside.
And as she grows to womanhood
She fills your heart with pride.
The love she gives so freely
Is a rare and beautiful gift.
She brings the sunshine right indoors
And gives your heart a lift.
With every busy, happy year
She's dearer than before,
Through every stage...through every age,
You love her more and more.
Here's to good women -
May we know them,
May we be them,
May we raise them.
~Mary Scandin
God made our world from a great shining star
And filled it with marvelous things
Like shadows and rainbows and dimples and bees
And dreams that come true of wishes
But He needed something special and dear
To make all He'd created worthwhile
To sing songs, pick flowers, be dainty, be sweet,
To dance and sing and giggle and wink
So God made the world Little Girls
Whom forever He will cherish and love
For of all His creatures in Heaven and Earth
He sees in a Little Girl's eyes
The wonder and glory of Paradise.
Why God Made Little Girls
God made the world with its towering trees,
majestic mountains and restless seas,
then paused and said, "It needs one more thing--
someone to laugh and dance and sing,
to walk in the woods and gather flowers,
to commune with nature in the quiet hours."
So God made little girls
with laughing eyes and bouncing curls,
with joyful hearts and infectious smiles,
enchanting ways and feminine wiles,
and when he'd completed the task he'd begun
he was pleased and proud of the work he'd done.
For the world, when seen through little girls' eyes,
greatly resembles paradise.
A young girl may dream of becoming a princess, but in the eyes of her parents, she already is. How will our children know who they are if they don't know where they come from?"
~John Steinbeck
The laughter of girls is, and ever was, among the delightful sounds of the earth.
~DeQuincey
Little girls are precious gifts, wrapped in love serene.
Their dresses tied with sashes and futures tied with dreams.
A One-year-old daughter is so many things --
A tiny discoverer of butterfly wings,
A hugger of Teddies,
A sweet sleepyhead,
And someone to dream for in bright years ahead...
A special new person
Who, right from the start,
Has a place in the family
And, of course, in your heart.
And, just when you think
That you've learned all the things
That your dear Daughter is
And the joy that she brings,
A hug or a grin
Comes with such sweet surprise
That love finds you smiling
With tears in your eyes!
