House/Home

A Home

Anyone can buy a house
And furnish it in style.
But to make a house a home...
Takes a little while.

Anyone can paint and polish
And spiffy up a place
But it takes a  little while
To fill it with love and grace.

I want a house where love dwells
And a house that is warm and cozy
I don't mind if there are lots of neighbors
Don't even mind if they are nosey!

I want a house in a neighborhood
Where families care about each other
Where neighbors visit back and forth
And look out for one another!

I want a House that is a home
And where I will feel loved and content
A Home can be a palace
Or a home can be a tent.

First Apartment: Home Sweet Home

Home is where your feel at ease
Can be yourself and do as you please!
Home is where you hang your hat
Hug your dog and pet your cat.

One of the big events we celebrate
Is when that very first step we take.
And find that first apartment to rent
Oh, it is money that's well spent!

Moving into your very own place
Puts the happiest smile on a person's face.
There may be one or two faces a tiny bit sad
Those are the faces of Mom and Dad...

House Blessing

I pray a blessing on your new home
That God would give sweet peace
And that He bless it every day
With joy that will not cease.

I ask for fun to fill the halls
And happiness in each room
And I ask that God would send
A rose with bud and bloom.

May friends fill your days
And sweet restful sleep your night
And may you feel God's presence
And know that all is right.

I Must Confess

I must confess
My house is a mess
And it doesn't seem to be
Cleaning itself
(Tho I had hoped it would)
With no help from me!

So I must get busy
And straighten and clean
And not be long
On this silly machine!

So if you don't see me
For a little while
When you see a dust bunny
Think of me and smile!

My Childhood Home

My childhood home is gone now
But in my heart I have the view
Of each precious bit of home
As if it were brand new!

I see every single tree
And every Springtime bloom
Along with every chick or pet
That chased away my gloom.

I see my parents standing there
Watching me come in the door
And every brother and sister
To their rooms I can open the door.

I can feel the atmosphere
Of love and laughter therein
And I can visit in my dreams
When I need to go home again.

My Childhood Home 2

Our home was not a mansion
But I didn't know it then...
I knew it sheltered us with love
From the rain and cold and wind.

I knew it had walls and a roof
And I knew well it's wooden floor
But when I was a youngster
I didn't know much more.

I knew it's where my life was
Where I was loved and cherished.
I knew it was warm and comfortable
And there I was well nourished.

I knew that folks in that house
Met me with arms open wide
And that they welcomed every friend
That I brought inside.

I wish I had lots of photos
To share with my kids today.
I wish I could take them to that house
And watch them run and play.

I wish the house were standing still
And that it was full of those so dear
I wish that when I think of it yet
My eyes did not want to tear.

But times have changed and life moves on
At such a rapid pace that one never thinks
That a family home could disappear
Like a childhood being erased!

They say you can't go back again
Nothing is the same as it seems
But I go back and visit when I'm lonely
I go back to visit in my dreams.
