I Can't See Him

Oh, Father I can't see him
And I can't hear his voice
If I could only touch his face
How my heart would rejoice!

My son has gone to war
In a terrible awful place
Full of danger everywhere
And I miss his precious face.

If I could only touch his hand
And tell him it's alright
Or whisper that I love him
As he goes off to fight.

My child, I can see him
And I will gently touch him there
I will whisper to his spirit
The things you want to share.

I will touch his hand for you
And tell him it's alright
I will tell him that I love him
As he goes off to fight.

Do not worry about your child
Just entrust him to my care
Your son and I talk together every day
For you taught him about prayer.

He asks the same things for you
That I would keep you safe.
He told me that he misses
His mother's sweet embrace.

He asked that I would touch your hand
And tell you that it's alright
That he knows that I'm with him
As he goes off to fight.

I whisper to his spirit
And I know he listens too
That I am always with him
Just as I am always with you.

I told him not to worry
To entrust you to my care
For you and I speak together daily
As you speak to me in prayer.

I Saw Mommy Crying

I saw Mommy Crying
As Daddy packed a bag
I'm much too big for tears
Although I hate to brag.

I saw Mommy wipe a tear
When she got in the car
And she handed me a treat
From the cookie jar.

I noticed she was not smiling
When Daddy got in his seat
So I offered her a little bite
Of my cookie treat.

When we got to the place
Where Mommy said Daddy had to go
Daddy got out and kissed us all
Oh, now I think I know...

Mommy kissed my Daddy
And hugged him with all her might
And it was then that I knew for sure
Daddy wouldn't be home tonight.

He got on a great big ship
And as hard as I tried
My face would not cooperate
And I cried and cried and cried.

Why do Daddies have to go
And fight with other Dads
Can't countries learn to get along?
Why must we all be mad?

Those kids in other countries
Are they just as sad today
Watching the Daddies that they love
Pack up and go away?

What if we kids get together
And tell them that it just isn't right
Daddies are made to hug and love
Not to go and fight!

When You Are Gone

Daddy, when you are gone out to sea
Our house is much too quiet for me.
And we don't laugh as much during the day
At the funny things people say.

We don't giggle so much out loud
But we do try to make you proud
By helping Mom and being good
Just the way you said we should.

When you are gone on deployment
It takes away from our enjoyment
Of anything that we love to do
For Daddy we are incomplete...without you.

We try hard to be so very brave
And every email we all save
And every photo, every word
And telephone message that we heard.

I store it all within my heart
The whole time that we're apart
And when you get back home again
My heart will wear a great big grin!
