Scouting/Camping
A Camping We Will Go
A camping we will go, a camping we will go.
Hi-ho we're off to the woods, a camping we will go.
We'll pitch the tent right here, we'll pitch the tent right here.
Hi-ho we're off to the woods, a camping we will go.
Now we'll cook the food, now we'll cook the food.
Hi-ho we're off to the woods, a camping we will go.
(To the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell")
Barges
Out of my window looking in the night
I can see the barges' flickering light;
Silently flows the river to the sea,
And the barges too go silently.
Chorus
Barges, I would like to go with you, I would like to sail the ocean blue
Barges, have you treasures in your hold?
Do you fight with pirates brave and bold?
Out of my window looking in the night
I can see the barges' flickering light;
Starboard shines green and port is glowing red,
You can see them flickering far ahead
Chorus
Dreams
Chorus:
May all your dreams bloom like daisies in the sun,
May you always have stars in your eyes,
May you not stop running until your race is run,
May you always have blue skies.
A dream is something you can make,
To keep within your heart,
To build on when you're glad or when you world's been torn apart.
A dream is something all your own
That no ones heart can steal.
A dream is something you can make come real.
You can share a smile with any stranger that you meet,
You can share your money with a beggar on the street,
But you can only share a dream when love has set it free,
Please, won't you share yours with me.
Flicker
The flicker of the campfire
The wind in the pines:
The stars in the heavens,
A moon that shines,
A place where people gather,
Make friends of all kinds,
A place where all men's troubles
Are always left behind.
So give me the light of the campfire
warm and bright
And give me some friends to sing with
I'll be here all night
Love is for those who find it
I've found mine right here,
Just you and me and the campfire
And songs we love to hear.
Girl Scouts Together
Girl Scouts together, that is our song.
Winding the old trails, rocky and long.
Learning our motto, living our creed.
Girl Scouts together, in every deed.
Girl Scouts together, happy are we.
Friendly to neighbors, far o'er the sea.
Faithful to country, loyal to home.
Known as true Girl Scouts wherever we roam.
Going Camping
Voice No. 1 : I got my gear in my pack
I got my pack on my back
Today's the day I'm going camping
Just got the go-ahead sign
The weather's gonna be fine
Today's the day I'm going camping
I'm gonna pitch me a tent
Won't have to pay any rent
It looks like ev'rything is "A O.K."
As far as I can see
I think it's gonna be a perfect camping day
Voice No. 2: The trees and animals
And clear blue skies
A waterfall comes tumbling right before my eyes
Birds that fly
Above a mountain stream
It's absolutely perfect better than a dream
Peace and quiet
Where the good Lord smiled
Fields and fields of flowers growing wild
This is
Just where I belong I'm a mother Nature's child
Voice No. 3: It's time to hit the trail
To hit the hill and dale
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains
It's great to reach the snow
And see the world below
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains
Each time we stop to eat
We get to rest our feet
And we'll make it if we take slow
'Cause the best way to climb
Is one step at a time and hiking is the only way to go
I got my gear in my pack
The trees and animals
It's time to hit the trail
I got my pack on my back
and clear blue skies
To hit the hill and dale
Today's the day I'm going camping
A waterfall comes tumbling right before my eyes
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains
Just got the go-ahead sign
Birds that fly
It's great to reach the snow
The weather's gonna be fine
Above a mountain stream
And see the world below
Today's the day I'm goin' camping
It's absolutely perfect, better than a dream
Oh, I love hiking in the mountains
I'm gonna pitch me a tent
Peace and quiet
Each time we stop to eat
Won't have to pay any rent
Where the good Lord smiled
We get to rest our feet
It looks like ev'rything is "A-O. K."
Fields and fields of flowers growing wild
And we'll make it if we take it slow
As far as I can see
This is
'Cause the best way to climb
I think it's gonna be
Just where I belong
Is one step at a time
A perfect camping day
I'm a Mother Nature's child
And hiking is the only way to go
John Denver, Words and Music by Ray Charles
Johnny Appleseed
The Lord is good to me,
And so I thank the Lord,
For giving me the things I need,
The sun and the rain,
And the apple seed.
The Lord is good to me.
And every seed that grows
Shall grow into a tree.
And one day soon
There'll be apples there
For everyone in the world to share.
The Lord is good to me.
Make New Friends
Make new friends,
but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.
A circle is round,
it has no end.
That's how long,
I will be your friend.
A fire burns bright,
it warms the heart.
We've been friends,
from the very start.
You have one hand,
I have the other.
Put them together,
We have each other.
Silver is precious,
Gold is too.
I am precious,
and so are you.
You help me,
and I'll help you,
and together
we will see it through.
The sky is blue
The Earth is green
I can help
to keep it clean
Across the land
Across the sea
Friends forever
We will always be
On My Honor
Chorus :
On my honor, I will try.
There's a duty to be done and I say I.
There's a reason to be here for a reason above.
My honor is to try and my duty is to love.
People don't need to know my name.
If I've done any harm, then I'm to blame.
If I've helped someone, then I've helped me.
And I've opened up my eyes to see.
Chorus
I've tucked away a song or two.
If you're feeling low, there's one for you.
If you need a friend, then I will come.
And there's many more where I come from.
Chorus
Friendship is the strangest thing
if you keep it to yourself, no reward will bring
but you gave it away, you gave it to me
and from now on great friends we'll be
Chorus
Come with me where the fire burns bright,
We can even see better by the candle's light.
And we'll find more meaning in a campfire's gold,
Than we've ever found in a year or so.
Chorus
We've a promise to always keep.
And to pray "Softly Falls" before we sleep.
We are Girl Scouts together and when we're gone,
We'll still be trying and singing this song.
Chorus
Peace
Peace, I ask of thee, oh river
Peace, peace, peace
When I learn to live serenely
Cares will cease.
From the hills, I gather courage
visions of the days to be;
Strength to lead and faith to follow,
all are given unto thee.
Peace, I ask of thee, oh river
Peace, peace, peace
When I learn to live serenely
Cares will cease.
Spider's Web
Chorus:
There's a web like a spider's web,
Made of silver light and shadow,
Spun by the moon in my room at night.
It's a web made to catch a dream,
Hold it tight till I awaken,
As if to tell me that dreaming's all right
Down in the valley, oo-oo, there's a fountain, oo-oo, near an old oak tree.
Near the fountain, oo-oo, there's a mission, oo-oo, where my love told me. . .
Chorus
On the evenin', oo-oo, I was leavin', oo-oo, my love came to me.
I was sleepin', oo-oo, she was weepin', oo-oo, when she said to me...
Chorus
I met a stranger, oo-oo, his name was Danger, oo-oo, we rode side by side.
Down in Santa Fe, oo-oo, I killed a man they say, oo-oo, Danger told me ride. . .
Chorus
Now if I return, oo-oo, they will hang me, oo-oo, ‘neath the old oak tree.
Down in the valley, oo-oo, near the fountain, oo-oo, where my love told me. . .
Chorus
Taps
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the sea, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.
Today
Chorus:
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
'Ere I forget all the joys that are mine today
Oh, I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
Who cares what tomorrow may bring?
Chorus
I can't be contented with yesterday's glories
I can't live on promises, winter to spring
Today is my moment and now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing
Chorus
